An Introduction to Futons

28 Apr

Futons have been a fixture of college students’ dorm rooms and other urban living settings for decades.  Futons are stylish, functional, and versatile; they can be integrated into nearly any setting.  Futon beds are lightweight and simple, providing sleepers with a comfortable place to rest.

What most people don’t know is that futon beds originated in Japan.  For hundreds of years, Japanese people have slept on thin futon mattresses placed directly on the floor.  They saw no need to have an elaborate bed with a frame and box spring and headboard.  All that these early futons involved was the thin mattress, small pillows, and a blanket.  In the morning, the futon bed could be rolled up and put in a closet.  Over time, the concept of sleeping on futon beds spread to America.

Modern futons often have adjustable frames and can be used as either a couch or a bed, depending on how the frame is arranged.  The frames are usually made of colored metal, but can be wooden as well.  Futon beds do not needed to be folded out like couch beds. All the sleeper needs to do is push the back of the frame from the upright couch position to a horizontal bed position.  These setups are comfortable in either the couch or bed position and are great for accommodating overnight guests. Advice on Building a Bunk Bed

18 Apr

Most bunk bed plans begin with the building of two twin size beds. Then the plan explains how to build the infrastructure and attach the beds. Some plans include instructions to use box springs to support the mattress rather than merely plywood. Such a design will make the bunk bed more comfortable for kids.

When building a bunk bed, special attention must be paid to safety because the bed will not be subject to quality control testing like beds created in factories. Safety tips to keep in mind when building and/or maintaining beds created with you bunk bed plan begin with making sure the top bunk has guard rails on all four sides. It is critical to ensure that the mattress fits snugly on all sides of the bed, and that the bed frame is sturdy. Finally, the ladder must be firmly connected to the bed. Curtains Can Decorate Either Your Window Or Your View

15 Nov

Curtains are materials that are hung over a window for decoration and other purposes. The main purposes are to provide privacy, block sunlight and decoration.

If the window looks onto streets or sidewalks, then curtains can be used for privacy. Translucent curtains like net curtains or sheer curtains will only block sunlight partially. Ceramic Mural Tile: Take A Closer Look

01 Nov

From its beginnings in 13th century Morocco, ceramic mural tile has been a staple in American design and décor. Although ceramic tile making was a craft known to the Egyptian, Chinese, and Babylonian ancients, the methods of its creation that we employ today stem directly from those early Moroccan artisans of ceramic mural tile.

Although ceramic mural tile goes through phases of popularity, its appeal reached an apex during the Arts & Crafts movement, which endured until the 1920s. Because of the current resurgence of interest in the Arts & Crafts period, ceramic mural tile has once again experienced a surge in status among designers, decorators, and, of course, ceramic mural tile artisans. Antique Picture Frame

03 May

The real purpose of a Picture Frame is to focus and protect pictures. Antique Picture Frames are precursors to wholesale products in acrylic or metal. Antique Picture Frames have a history dating to the 2nd century B.C., with the finding of borders around Etruscan cave paintings. The frames were primarily used for isolating and safeguarding particular paintings.

The first Antique Picture Frame was the carved wooden frame found in the Middle Ages, when frames were usually made by painter himself. It was during the Renaissance that frame making gained prominence.
