Creating a High End Look with Paint

So when you get your piece of bargain furniture home, break out a can of paint and get busy working your magic. Before painting a piece of furniture, you will need to be sure that it has been thoroughly cleaned. Then you will want to make sure that its surfaces are smoothed over as well. While it is easiest painting unfinished furniture, you should not have any problem applying a new coat of paint to a piece of furniture that has been previously painted.

Painting the house is usually the project that makes everything look its very best and can tie everything together. You always want to make sure that you have good ventilation when you are working with paint. First, make sure that your furniture is sanded and smooth. Then wipe any excess dust away with a tack cloth. Then you are ready to apply a thin coat of primer with a foam brush. If you have to cover a large surface, you can use a roller and then let the primer completely dry. If you are painting a piece of furniture that is metal, plastic or even laminate, you can find spray paint that is specifically formulated to stick to these nonporous surfaces. Hold the spray can about ten inches from your surface and apply a thin coat of spray with an even side-to-side motion.
